The annual Comhdháil (Congress) of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann took place last weekend in Cultúrlann na hÉireann, Monkstown, Co. Dublin. Delegates from all parts of Ireland were joined by representatives from the U.S. and Britain for this annual meeting. It was considered to be a very successful Congress with good lively debate and constructive contributions from delegates. This was the year in which Fleadh Rules came up for revision and this resulted in 74 motions appearing on the clár. Congress was presided over by Uachtarán an Chomhaltais, Vincent Jordan from Birmingham. It got underway on Saturday morning with the Annual Report given by Ard Stiúrthóír, Labhrás Ó Murchú, followed by the financial report and Provincial Councils’ Reports. Motions were debated on Saturday and again on Sunday. Also on Sunday morning the Presidential Address was given and the election of national officers took place. Tomás Ó Maodomhniagh of CCÉ, Peig Uí Riain, Co. Luimnigh was nominated by all provincial councils and therefore was re-elected unopposed as Ard-Rúnaí as was Pádraig Ó Duffaigh from Co.
