Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh Athea 2019
June 04, 2019
Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh Athea 2019 has come to an end, and what a Fleadh it was!!
Proceedings got underway on Wednesday evening where we were treated to a most enjoyable evening of storytelling led by the fantastic Frances Kennedy.
Then on Thursday evening, we saw Top of the Town taken over by a swarm of singers kept in line by the wonderful Catherine Broderick.
On Friday, for the official opening of Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh, we were treated to a display of one of our most entertaining traditions, the Wrenboys, who really kicked the crowd into festival mode and left us all excited for the weekend still to come!
Competition mode kicked in on Saturday morning where our U10 Tin-Whistle competitors set the standard for a fabulous weekend of entertainment. Sunday's competitions showcased our older competitors where, although the entries were fewer than Saturday, the standard rose higher and higher with each performance! A massive well done to all who competed over the weekend and congratulations and best of luck to all who have qualified for the Munster Fleadh Cheoil which will take place in Ennis in July!
A fantastic weekend was rounded off on Monday evening by a Street Entertainment Competition where even the rain couldn't dampen the spirits of all who remained to play late into the night!
The County Board would like to thank CCÉ Áth an tSléibhe , the Fleadh organising committee and the many local volunteers who helped to make this Fleadh a resounding success. Officials, adjudicators, competitors and their families and seasoned Fleadh-goers have all commented on the great welcome they received in Athea and on the fantastic atmosphere and spirit in the village all weekend. Everyone has gone home with such happy memories of Fleadh Cheoil Luimnigh 2019. Maith sibh go léir!
