Ceol an Gheimhridh

The County Finals of Ceol an Gheimhridh will take on Sunday, November 10th in Glin and will be hosted by CCÉ, An Gleann.
These competitions are strictly confined to Comhaltas members only with a maximum of three entries from a given branch in each competition – wind, reed, string, duets, quartets, céilí bands, singing (in Irish and English), storytelling (in Irish and English), recitation, figure dancing and set dancing.
Please note the change of age categories as per last year’s competitions – under 11 and 11-14. Age of all competitors for this year’s Ceol an Gheimhridh is reckoned at January 1st, 2019.
All branch secretaries should have received the relevant information and entry forms. All entries must to be given to your local branch secretary who will in turn forward them on to Rúnaí Chontae, Ultan Ó Maolcatha.
Closing date for entries is Friday, October 25th.
ELIGIBILITY NOTE: Competitors are Confined to registered members of one Branch - Competitors are not eligible to compete at County Level unless they are a fully paid of member for the new Comhaltas year 2019/2020 and that their branch is registered with the County Board for 2019/2020 at the time of submitting entries. Competitors may be members of ONE Branch only at the time and may compete with one Branch only in Ceol an Ghemhridh. Competitors may only compete ONCE in any competition.
Music : Solo/Duet/Quartette : 2 pieces as listed in Clár na gComórtas.
For Duets & Quartettes the instrument must be listed on the entry form.
Céilí Bands: Two contrasting tunes as in Under 15 Céilí Band competition per Clár na gComórtas.
(Minimum Six, Maximum Ten Performers) The number of musicians playing in the Band at the qualifying round, shown on the Co. Results form, may not be increased for the Munster Finals.
Singing/Amhránaíocht: Amhránaíocht ar an sean nós and Traditional songs in English 2 songs one fast and one slow in each competition. (note, a song from the competitor’s own county may earn a bonus of 5 marks at the adjudicator’s discretion. – no list required)
Scéalaíocht & Storytelling: Minimum of 4 minutes and a maximum of 8 minutes.
Dán a Aithriseoireacht /Recitation of a Poem (In Irish or English or Bi-lingual) Poem to be Irish in character or in the Irish language. Maximum - 5 minutes.
Set Dancing : Traditional Set: Mixed Teams (4 boys & 4 Girls) & All Girls Team: 2 parts of any Munster set (Munster Sets ONLY allowed). New competition Munster POLKA /JIG SETS Mixed U 14 Set held last year continues again this year (min of 2 boys, max of 4).
The two parts will be chosen from a choice of Jig/Slide/Polka from the same Munster set. Names of all sets being danced to be shown on entry form to County
Rince Céilí : 8 Hand Céilí Dance (15) 4 Hand Céilí Dance
Céilí Dancing Teams: may comprise of any combination: Any number of boys up to a maximum of 4 in 8 Hand Dance and the remainder made up of girls. (This is different to Fleadh Cheoil Competition)
Competitors should note that the objective of the competition is to provide a platform and an outlet for ordinary branch members involved in Céilí and Set dancing. The emphasis should be on the traditional approach to dancing in costume and footwear.
Céilí dancing: Body, one figure, & Body of Céilí Dance (as per Ár Rincí Chéilí 2014) – Pléaracha na Bandan/Humours of Bandon : Dancers to perform Body, first figure in full (1st couple, body, 2nd couple) and Body. Aoibhneas na Bealtaine/Sweets of May: Dancers to perform: Circle, Body, next figure, i.e. Lead around, Body.
Names of all Céilí Dances being danced to be shown on entry form to County
