SEISIÚN: There was only one Seisiún venue in Co. Limerick this year - CCÉ, Teampall an Ghleanntáin in the Devon Inn Hotel, Templeglantine on Thursday nights which started at 8.30 p.m. A great evening of music, song, dance and storytelling was had by all who attended. We would appeal to branches in the county to support Seisiún.
PUBLIC RELATIONS: Public Relations has become a very import area of very unit of Comhaltas. With people today involved in so many different activities it is important that Comhaltas promotes itself at both county level and locally at branch level. We are very fortunate in Limerick to have a very dedicated County PRO in Séamus Ó hÁirtnéide. Séamus has put a lot of time and effort in getting the County Board website (www.limerickcomhaltas.ie) off the ground. It is the goto place for any member of Comhaltas in County Limerick to get up to date information and all latest news in the Comhaltas world. Any information required for Fleadh Cheoil, Ceol an Gheimhridh, Scoil Fonn etc is also available there as well as details of branch classes and activities. Branches are asked to keep Séamus informed of all events taking place in your craobh. Limerick Comhaltas has it own Facebook page and Twitter (used at Limerick Fleadh to post results of competitions). At the Limerick Fleadh this year Séamus launched some Comhaltas merchandise to help promote Limerick Comhaltas - Comhaltas lapel pins and large stickers for instrument cases etc. All these initiatives help to make people aware of Comhaltas in Limerick. Maithú Séamus!
FLEADH NA MUMHAN 2020 – LIMERICK’S TURN: 2020 is Limerick’s turn to host Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan. A number of informal meetings were held last November, December and June outside of County Board Meetings to identify a branch and venue to host the event. Unfortunately, the branches in Co. Limerick felt they were not in a position to host the Munster Fleadh as it was deemed too big an undertaking for any one branch. The onus fell back on Limerick County Board to find a solution. Leas Chathaoirleach, Liam Ó Guiní was appointed by the County Board to liase with all the Limerick Branches to find a way forward to staging Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan in the county. Newcastle West was felt the best location for the Munster Fleadh in Limerick as it hosted the event previously and has ample venues for all the various competition. Contact was also made with the Newcastle West Business Association. The outcome was that Limerick County Board applied to host the 2020 Munster Fleadh Cheoil in Newcastle West in association with all the Limerick branches of Comhaltas and with the local support of the Newcastle West Business Association. Limerick County Board would like to pay tribute to Liam Ó Guiní for all his hard work over the Summer months to finding a solution. Maithú Liam!
